Half Hour Chats
We’re missing the chats, the fresh thoughts & all the different faces. It felt good & useful when we spent an afternoon talking with artists the week before last about their emergency ACE bids. So we thought it might be nice to keep this invitation going
An Update from MAYK
We wanted to update you on how MAYK is responding to the Covid-19 crisis. In mid-March, we closed our office and cancelled or postponed all our performances for the foreseeable future. We feel that absence most in Mayfest of course – a programme that we were so proud of. It’s also true that the process of bringing together that extraordinary collection of experiences gives us the spirit to plough on and consider new unchartered territories. How do these stories continue to be told? How do we best support our artist community; the bedrock of everything we do? And how do we be brave and work with integrity at this time?
Verity Standen's Undersong tour postponed
We are very disappointed to say that we must postpone the upcoming performances of Undersong.
The nature of this special show – and part of its particular appeal – is the opportunity to experience music in a place of intimacy. To share moments of beauty and surprise up-close with fellow audience members, to witness performers sharing elaborate harmonies within touching distance.
Mayfest 2020 Update
It is with regret that we have taken the very difficult, but ultimately inevitable and important, decision to cancel Mayfest 2020.
The rapidly escalating public health emergency we are all confronted with means that it has become impossible for us to deliver the festival this May. The driving force for Mayfest has always been to create dynamic meeting points for participation in meaningful, heart-swelling live experiences. We can’t do this in the current context. No-one can. And we stand in solidarity with everyone who is affected by this bewildering and unsettling time.

Our 2019 Highlights
Well, we made it to the end of 2019. Well done everyone. While the world around us seemed to become ever more polarised and divided, we were thankful for the many moments of togetherness and beauty that live performance offered us.
Here are just a few of highlights from MAYK’s year...

On the Kindness of Strangers
Earlier this year, we spent an afternoon in Derby at the excellent Departure Lounge festival, talking with artists and producers about co-creation in international contexts. As part of that event, we invited Theatre Replacement’s Maiko Yamamoto to talk about their work. Theatre Replacement’s Town Choir was recently part of our recent strategic touring project. This is Maiko’s contribution.
