SESSION is going back on the road this summer, bringing some of that Tottenham magic on a national tour and to a town near you.
Produced by MAYK in association with LIFT, SESSION features live and original Afrobeats tunes from North London music producers Empire Sounds, hip hop and street dance by Steppaz and choreography from the internationally acclaimed choreographer Dan Canham and his team at Still House. SESSION premiered at Bernie Grant Arts Centre last June as part of LIFT 2018 before heading to Bristol’s The Station and the National Theatre’s River Stage Festival - gathering a whole bunch of fans along the way.
The creative team have been working together for over three years on the show, which began during a LIFT residency that Dan Canham took part in during 2015. One of the performers, Kristal said: ‘SESSION is about Tottenham and sisterhood and how it brings us together… We’ve been through fire, stabbings etc and we still manage to come back together. So I feel that’s the unity part of the show, saying: Anything that we break down, we will always come back together.’
SESSION wowed audiences in 2018 with its infectious energy and its powerful celebration of diverse youth culture, of body positivity, of trust and unity:
You can catch SESSION at Brighton Festival this weekend (Thu 23 - Sun 26 May at 8.30pm) where it’ll be performed right next to the beach, there’s no need to book and the tickets are ‘pay what you can’.
