Young Programmers

We’re inviting young people aged 16-21 to get involved in our organisation by taking part in our new Young Programmers group and helping to shape our next festival of contemporary performance, Mayfest 2020. We’d like to hear from young people across Bristol, whatever your education, background or experience. The group gets together once a month to meet artists, go to events, learn about the industry and see shows in and around Bristol together – it’s an opportunity to share your views and make your voice heard, in a fun and informal environment.

We’re particularly keen to hear from young people of colour, young people who are deaf or disabled and those living in and around Barton Hill, St Pauls and Hartcliffe.

What you’ll get from being involved:

·      Unique work experience with an arts organisation doing exciting things in contemporary theatre

·      Mentoring from MAYK staff and board members

·      Free tickets to MAYK events and theatre shows

·      A place to discuss contemporary performance

·      An ongoing voice in what we do

·      An opportunity to help us shape what goes into Mayfest 2020

·      A Mayfest 2020 festival pass

If this sounds like something you would like to try, get in touch with Polly Davis, Managing Producer at polly@mayk.org.uk or 0117 925 9999.

ARTSMARK

Artsmark is the creative quality standard for schools and education settings, awarded by Arts Council England, recognising their commitment to high quality arts and cultural education.

MAYK is proud to be supporting schools and education settings on their Artsmark journey, inspiring children and young people to create, experience, and participate in great arts and culture.

Our offer to schools and education settings

We offer education settings who are working towards, or currently hold an Artsmark Award, with a range of opportunities across contemporary performance to help them deliver the goals and objectives within their Statement of Commitment.

MAYK can deliver a bespoke programme of participatory activity including workshops, talks and long term projects which will be carefully structured according to the requirements and infrastructure of the setting. We believe the best work for children and young people involves them directly in its creation and will always work collaboratively with teachers and young people to create projects that offer an exciting and profound type of connection. Encompassing, theatre, dance and music, our work can provide innovative, unusual ways of meeting cross-curricular objectives.

Our work is applicable for all Key Stages through primary and secondary, accessible to SEND pupils and can be scaled to the time and resources available.
