Participants wanted for international dance production Habitat.

A few weeks ago, we shared the news that Mayfest is back for 2022. Today, we are very pleased to announce that MAYK will be collaborating with choreographer Doris Uhlich to present her ground-breaking piece HABITAT in Bristol in a dramatic city centre location.

Doris Uhlich is a renowned Austrian choreographer whose work challenges conventional formats and body images, investigates the relationship between human being and machine at different levels, and explores the future of the human body in the age of its surgical and genetic perfection.

HABITAT is a visceral celebration of unity in diversity. Working with participants from across the city, Doris will create a unique choreography that illuminates the naked human body in a bold, captivating ensemble piece.

As individuals and as a crowd, performers will take over a space with movement that is enthralling, energetic, and at times deeply contemplative.

We are looking for 70 voluntary participants (aged 18+) to perform in the piece. Participants must be based in Bristol or within travelling distance and able to attend workshops w/c 23 May and performances on the weekend of 28 and 29 May. Workshops and performances will be fully accessible.

This presentation is supported by PerformEurope, an international project which aims to rethink cross-border performing arts presentation in a more inclusive, sustainable, and balanced way in the 40 countries of Creative Europe and the UK. Prior to Bristol, HABITAT will tour to Marseille, France and Trondheim, Norway.

When

Full availability during workshop days, rehearsals and performance days is requested. Workshops take place over four days during the week of 23 May.

Please note that due to the nature of the piece, participants will be naked during workshops and performances.

Workshops and pre-performance rehearsals will be closed. We will follow existing Covid-19 guidance.

Participation in HABITAT is voluntary. Each participant will receive a £55 honorarium to cover expenses for the entirety of the production. Participation in the workshops is required in order to participate in the performance.

We will take good care of you throughout workshops and performances. Refreshments will be provided.
