We’re thrilled to announce the launch of I Like It. What Is It? – a two-year residency programme hosted by MAYK and supported by Jerwood Arts

I Like It. What Is It? will invite four artists or companies making radical live performance to explore ‘boomerang’ ideas – the ones that return to demand your attention but remain without context for exploration. It’s a space to engage with ideas that feel challenging, elusive, or difficult, without being beholden to production schedules.

This bespoke collaboration will prioritise care, slow-working & play, curated & held by a community of MAYK producers & artists.

There’s no restriction on form or theme. It’s time to play again.

I Like It. What Is It? is intended for artists who:

  • Define themselves as interdisciplinary or working at the edges of form

  • Have no less than five and no more than ten years professional experience

  • Have not had a producing relationship with MAYK in the past

"We are delighted to be supporting MAYK to offer significant and generous residencies for artists who want to tackle the big ideas that just won't go away because it’s too sticky or important. Against a backdrop where artists are under pressure to quickly produce new work, we're share MAYK's curiosity to find new projects that will take us on a journey and end up in unexpected places."

– Jon Opie, Deputy Director, Jerwood Arts

Needless to say, we’re hugely excited for this programme to take shape and grateful to Jerwood Arts for their vision and partnership.
